Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to move?

This depends on your situation. If you’re moving across town, most moves can be done in a day. If you’re moving to a nearby city, it may take a day or two, depending on your needs. If you’re moving out of state or overseas, then the move can take much longer.

Some delays cannot be planned. For example, if a major thunderstorm hits on the day of your move, you might have to wait until the storm has passed or even the day after, depending on the weather. Traffic is another delay that many forget to factor into their moves. If you’re moving across the state, you might have to deal with rush-hour traffic either in the morning or evening.

If you have concerns about how long it will take to complete your move, talk with your moving consultant at They will listen to your concerns and help you build a moving plan that fits your timeline. If there are potential problems, you and your moving consultant can discuss them and come up with good solutions should the worst case scenario happen.

When is it best to schedule a move?

This is really a two-part question. You should start looking for a moving company as you begin looking for a new house or apartment. Check out moving companies in your area online, browse through their services, and read through their reviews.

During this time, you should also think about the best time for your future movers. Movers are usually busy in the warmer months, at the beginning and end of the month, and on weekends. If you move in the middle of the week in a cool month, then you may have more time with your movers, and your estimate might be a little less than you expected.

For small house and apartments, you should book a moving company at least four to six weeks in advance. If you need packing and crating services, then definitely book six weeks in advance. For larger homes, try to book at least two to three months in advance, depending on how big your house is.

Does my homeowners policy cover my moving expenses?

This will mainly depend on your policy. Before you schedule a move, it’s a good idea to sit down with your insurance agent and clarify what will and will not be covered by your insurance policy. provides additional valuation coverage for all its clients. Any client that uses our services will receive released value coverage free of charge. This means that our company will assume liability by the weight of the object up to 60 cents per pound per item. So if your couch is 75 pounds, you will be covered for $45 if it is damaged. For some items, this may be okay, but for TVs and other big-ticket items, you may want more coverage.

If you opt for full value protection, your moving company will repair, replace, or pay cash for the amount of the repair or replacement at the current market value of the item. This is the safest option for anyone moving. There are deductible plans available.

How will you protect my carpet and hardwood floors?

Even if you’re leaving a house or apartment, you don’t want to see scuff marks on your hardwood floors or tracks of dirt across your carpet. cares about your floors as well, and our movers will make sure your floors stay in good condition as we work.

Depending on your needs, we may employ one or all of the following techniques:

  • Placing a floor mat in front of the doors, so our movers can easily wipe their feet as they move in and out of your home.
  • Using carpet film protectors, blankets, or towels on your carpet. Any dirt or debris on your movers’ shoes will stay on the sheet or towel, keeping your carpets safe and clean.
  • Taping special moving paper on your hardwood floor as runway for movers. They’ll stay on this walkway as they move around your home.

If you have other concerns about your floors, contact us and let us know.

Are there items I can’t have moved on the van?

There are some things that cannot move on our trucks. One major item we can’t move is anything flammable or combustible. These materials have to be disposed of safely before you move. Those items include…

  • Gasoline
  • Propane
  • Oils
  • Paints
  • Aerosols
  • Ammunition
  • Weed killers
  • Acids

For any questions about how to dispose of these materials, speak with your local waste disposal and collection facilities.

We do not allow house plants on our trucks either. Spending any amount of time in a dark truck isn’t good for any type of plant, and we find that most plants end up making it to their new homes in poor condition. For this reason, we ask that all clients move their own house plants.

You must also move any and all pets yourself. While most people will make arrangements for their dogs and cats, some forget smaller animals such as hamsters or fish. You must make arrangements for these pets as well.

Very positive overall experience. Colin was one of my packers and movers. He was really on top of his game. I've moved several times in my life and by far this has been my best move experience. The rest of his crew were very good as well as polite. I hope when we move out of state in a few months can provide the same level of quality crew to handle the big move.

From beginning to end, we worked with well trained, efficient, professional people who knew how to get the job done. The only issue was running out of boxes which we then needed to go purchase. Overall a great experience!
